Manchester derby commercial by ESPN, complete with accent/slang “translations.” Great creative and great execution. Oh, and…go, United!

It’s easy to excite those of us deeply in love with soccer. We don’t need a polished campaign like Nike’s My Time is Now to give us love of the game or want to boot up and hit the pitch. But it certainly isn’t painful on the eyes or the soul.
This video features a heavy lineup of players such as Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribéry, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Özil, FC Barcelona’s Andrés Iniesta and Gerard Piqué, Internazionale’s Wesley Sneijder, Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, Santos’ Neymar, and Arsenal’s M’Vila.
And then there’s Pep Guardiola casually taking notes about some random player who nearly scored a goal. I have to assume this intentionally/subliminally binds this campaign with Nike’s The Chance campaign with Pep. Nike certainly knows how to market their brand. Even with a globally-recognized name they still put forth a crafty effort with advertising and marketing.
On a side note—where’s the yellow card at 0:54 for the tackle with studs facing forward?

Sex sells, and Star Wars sells…so, you know…a sexy Jedi body wash called Saber should sell great. Except the product isn’t real so Seth Green isn’t selling anything. He’s simply entertaining at Chewbacca’s expense.

I’ve had Canadian Club whiskey and it’s okay. (If I’m drinking Canadian whiskey it’s going to be Crown.) But I had absolutely no idea it was the whiskey of choice for Americans during prohibition. What’s more they launched a wildly successful advertising campaign dubbed “Hide a Case” for which they hid 22 cases of whiskey around the globe and invited people to find them, hinting at their locations in advertisements.
This video is a commercial in disguise, but it enlightens with some interesting facts about the history of Canadian Club in American and around the world. The illustrations and typography are really nice and the infographic-style animation makes it complete.

This is my new favorite commercial. I don’t even know if it’s running on television, but I also don’t know that it matters. It’s a fantastic and unique piece of marketing that has an impact. Go get ’em, Dollar Shave Club.
